Recently, I got a first-hand look at just how true that is.
I think you’ll agree that gardeners are creature of habit. Most of us develop a strong attachment to just a few favorite tools, the ones that we find ourselves picking up every single time we head into the garden. The ones we use over and over, day after day. The ones we feel practically naked without.
is like a traditional Japanese hori-hori knife, but far more versatile. It’s simple, but it does the work of a dozen different tools: digging holes and transplanting, making rows for sowing seeds, breaking up matted roots and clumpy soil, cutting open bags, measuring and spacing, weeding, prying away vines attached to trees, and the list goes on. Suffice it to say, I would be lost without my soil knife
are my single most important tool for keeping plants attractive, well-shaped, and healthy. To be sure, there’s not a day when I’m in the garden that I haven’t put my pruners to work. Whether I’m cutting off diseased foliage and deadheading, taking cuttings or trimming back branches, removing suckers, or just taming a wild offshoot or two, my pruners are my trusted friend I call on many times each day.
These go where the pruners can't or shouldn’t. When I want to make a precision cut on a fleshy, non-woody stem, this is the tool I’m using. From thinning tiny seedlings to removing suckers from tomato plants and even cutting vines, Velcro, or twine, there are plenty of jobs that need the exactness and sharpness you only get with a tool like narrow-bladed micro-scissors.
You would think this wouldn’t be so challenging. Believe me, I’ve wasted money on more tool belts and wearable holsters than I can count. But I could never find a single sheath that held all my must-haves safely and conveniently, without also having a lot of wasted space and unwanted bulk.
I finally did some research and found out that three is something of a magic number when it comes to a tool sheath. Lots of products have two compartments, but adding a third that was not only safe and secure but also fit in a clean and low-profile design? It simply didn’t exist.
A deep rabbit hole of internet searching finally led to me to Wheeler Munroe, an exceptionally talented leather artist based in the mountains of western North Carolina. And after many emails, tons of videos and pictures sent back and forth, and lots of video chats over many months, we finally came up with a working design that looked amazing and also satisfied my requirements.
It has exactly what I always wanted: three custom-sized pouches to hold all my favorite tools right where they need to be, all in an efficient triple-stack design! The back pouch snugly fits my soil knife, the middle pouch holds a standard pair of bypass pruners without them banging around, and the front pouch is located perfectly for securely storing my floral snips while still allowing ample room to easily remove and replace them.
It’s functional, it’s ergonomic, and it’s completely self-contained. Each tool is positioned right at my fingertips for easy, no-look access every time. No second sheath, no carrying everything by hand or overloading pockets, no having to set a tool down in the garden only to have to go looking for it again later.

But as I put my new one-of-a-kind sheath through the paces in my own garden, I realized it could do even more.
Wheeler and I added a narrow pouch to hold a UV-resistant permanent marker for writing on plant tags and pots. A second side pouch is meant for a generous supply of plant tags, minimizing trips back and forth to get more.
Then we added a riveted nickel hoop. Here’s where I clip on whatever I may need at the start of the day with a simple carabiner. One day it’s a roll of Velcro tape; the next day might call for a pruning saw. Or gloves. Or maybe a small spray bottle of alcohol for sanitizing tools. I’m still finding uses for this fantastic feature.
We really tried to think of everything… like multiple ways to attach it to your hip for perfect positioning, closed pouches to keep sharp and pointed blades safely contained, and tough, durable, handmade leather construction that will help the Ultimate Gardening Sheath last for years – and look good doing it.
I can’t tell you how this tool has changed things in the garden for me. It’s a huge time-saver, keeps me more organized, and has increased my productivity in the garden in ways I never expected! I think it will do the same for you.

Another add-on was a riveted brushed nickel hoop, where I can clip on any number of items with a simple carabiner: a roll of gardener Velcro tape, a pruning saw, a pair of gloves, even a small spray bottle of alcohol for sterilizing tools.
With the fold-over tab and high quality metal belt clip, the Ultimate Gardening Sheath can be attached with or without a belt to accommodate a wide variety of gardeners.
